Stratford Butterfly Farm

Stratford Butterfly Farm

Rain or shine discover some of the world’s most beautiful butterflies in a unique rainforest environment of tropical blossom, splashing waterfalls and fish-filled pools. Educational visits are tailored to fit in with the national curriculum and offer excellent opportunities for children to learn about insects, lifecycles and the ancient Maya civilisation.

Stratford Butterfly Farm

Bring your class to Stratford Butterfly Farm for a lesson they won’t forget!
In the Flight Area watch in wonder as hundreds of vibrantly coloured butterflies, from all over the world, fly and feed around you. This area is also home to a variety of birds, huge koi carp and even a couple of iguanas.

Observe the amazing life-cycle of a butterfly in the Discovery Zone and discover some of the world’s largest and most camouflaged caterpillars. See giant silk moths and their cocoons. Within the Emerging Case you may even see a butterfly hatch from its pupa!

Find out all about the Maya, an ancient civilisation that lived within the rainforests of Central America. Look out for replica artefacts and statues which are on display throughout Stratford Butterfly Farm. See for yourself some of the crops that the Maya farmed and are still being farmed today. The Maya can be credited for the discovery of the cacao bean the source of chocolate!

The Minibeast Metropolis is teeming with life and home to an amazing leafcutter ant colony, now one of the largest on display in the UK. Watch the ants take leaves back to their nest along a series of overhead ropework. Marvel at the fascinating and strange creatures in the Metropolis where stick insects, beetles and snakes live alongside giant snails, frogs, crabs and some of the world’s largest spiders!

With plenty of hands on observation and activity in an authentic rainforest environment, we believe that Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm offers the perfect place for an unforgettable day out with your class.
