In the Flight Area watch in wonder as hundreds of vibrantly coloured butterflies, from all over the world, fly and feed around you. This area is also home to a variety of birds, huge koi carp and even a couple of iguanas.
Observe the amazing life-cycle of a butterfly in the Discovery Zone and discover some of the world’s largest and most camouflaged caterpillars. See giant silk moths and their cocoons. Within the Emerging Case you may even see a butterfly hatch from its pupa!
Find out all about the Maya, an ancient civilisation that lived within the rainforests of Central America. Look out for replica artefacts and statues which are on display throughout Stratford Butterfly Farm. See for yourself some of the crops that the Maya farmed and are still being farmed today. The Maya can be credited for the discovery of the cacao bean the source of chocolate!
The Minibeast Metropolis is teeming with life and home to an amazing leafcutter ant colony, now one of the largest on display in the UK. Watch the ants take leaves back to their nest along a series of overhead ropework. Marvel at the fascinating and strange creatures in the Metropolis where stick insects, beetles and snakes live alongside giant snails, frogs, crabs and some of the world’s largest spiders!
With plenty of hands on observation and activity in an authentic rainforest environment, we believe that Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm offers the perfect place for an unforgettable day out with your class. It is the largest and most comprehensive attraction of its type in the UK and is open throughout the year.
Tours last approximately 1 hour and include a ‘Meet the Mini Beast’ handling session.
Led by experienced members of the education team, they present all aspects of Stratford Butterfly Farm in an engaging and educational manner.
Special needs groups are catered for and the attraction is wheelchair accessible.
Facilities include lockers for school groups, coach drop off point, onsite toilets including disabled, picnic area and wildflower garden.
