Theatre Workout Launches Workshops in Stratford-upon-avon

New educational opportunities for schools in the home of Shakespeare

Theatre Workout, the leading producer of theatre workshops in London’s West End, has expanded its award-winning educational workshops to Stratford-Upon-Avon in a bid to make drama and theatre more accessible to schools.

With drama on a rapid decline in UK schools, a cutback in funding for educational drama services across the UK, and the rising cost of school trips to London, Theatre Workout has launched a new programme in Stratford-Upon-Avon to enable more schools to access high-quality drama experiences.

The programme, rooted in Shakespeare, offers a diverse range of bespoke workshops for schools visiting the town, including for drama and non-drama students. Workshops are available on classical and contemporary theatre practice, exploring techniques used when staging Shakespeare’s plays, helping students to better understand Shakespeare’s language, characters and stories through performance, all of which helps to expand the English and Drama curriculum.

Adam Milford, the founder of Theatre Workout said “I did my ever first drama workshop in Stratford-Upon-Avon when I was doing A-level English about 30 years ago. It changed my life and I’ve been working in the industry ever since. Launching this programme feels like I’ve come full circle, and I hope that this programme gives young people today that same, potentially life changing experience I had, all those years ago”.

Taking place in studios across the town, such as community centres and church halls, workshops are led by a team of professional actors and directors, most of whom have a connection with the RSC. As with all Theatre Workout workshops, each workshop is tailored to the group taking part – to their age, ability, show choices, and learning objectives set out by their class teacher, to give them the best possible theatre experience and to maximise their theatre visit.

The programme also expands Theatre Workout’s school trips services, organising entire school trips to the town, including both day-trips and residentials.

Theatre Workout, established in 2006, is a leading producer of theatre workshops in the UK, and the leading producer of workshops in London’s West End, where it has created the official education programmes for 38 major West End plays and musicals in the past 18 years, supported by an unrivalled range of bespoke masterclasses, covering all forms of theatre and performance, led by a team of industry professionals.

Theatre Workout’s Travel Service, also known as Creative DMC, curates bespoke school trips with a focus on creativity and culture experiences. It provides schools with a one-stop-shop booking service where Theatre Workout organises travel, accommodation, meals, tours, tickets and more to deliver an entire school trip, saving teacher’s precious time, energy and money.

Theatre Workout won the Best Education Provider award at the British Youth Travel Awards, 2023, the latest of many industry recognised awards for its workshops in London, Stratford-Upon-Avon, and in schools across the UK.
