Paws for Remembrance returns to the National Memorial Arboretum

Written by: Elmtree Press

The National Memorial Arboretum and Animal Friends Insurance are inviting dog owners and their four-legged friends to take part in a 5km walk on Sunday, February 12 between 9am and 3pm.  Advanced booking is recommended and suggested donation of £5 per dog.

The route around the 150 acre Arboretum will offer opportunities to view many of the 330 memorials, which pay tribute to those who have served and continue to serve our country. Volunteers will be on hand to provide more information about the Arboretum and the memorials during the walk.

Happy Hounds High Street will be home to many fantastic stands where visitors will find a variety of pet related businesses offering everything from pet portraits, pet clothing, and treats, to a company offering pet care whilst you’re on holiday.  The Arboretum’s restaurant will be serving a range of hot meals and snacks.

Vet nurses from Springwood Vets in Burton upon Trent will also be available during the day to offer free advice and tips to dog owners, and to answer visitors’ questions about their pets.

Sarah Oakden, Head of Marketing at the Arboretum, said: “We are pleased to partner with Animal Friends and other businesses to encourage dog owners to try our specially designated dog-walking route around the Arboretum. Whilst dogs are welcome any time of year, we do ask that dog walkers use our designated route to ensure the comfort of all our visitors. This special date in the calendar enables dogs and their humans to experience other areas of the site off the dog walking route.”

Westley Pearson, Claims and Marketing Director at Animal Friends said, “Animal Friends Insurance are supporters of Paws for Remembrance and are very much looking forward to participating in this year’s walk. We will have a few of our team participating with their own dogs in remembrance to the fallen. This is a wonderful event, and we're proud to remember the animals, and the humans, who laid down their lives in combat.”

Paul Revell, Associate Partner at Springwood vets said: “We’re delighted to be invited to the Paws for Remembrance event. Our vets and nurses will be on hand to answer any general questions you might have about the health and welfare of your dogs or any other pets you have at home so please come and have a chat with us, we'll have lots freebies and vouchers to share with you. If your four legged friend has a mishap during the day, don't worry, we'll be on hand to administer emergency first aid. We look forward to seeing you on the day"
