Eureka! The National Children’s Museum

At Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, we bring learning to life…
We welcome thousands of school children to Halifax, West Yorkshire, every year so it’s kind of our thing. We’ll sort everything so you and your class can focus on having a memorable, inspirational, FUN day out.

Eureka! The National Children’s Museum

Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax, West Yorkshire is specially designed for children aged 0-11. With six cross-curricular galleries, as well as outdoor areas to explore, Eureka! offers a truly memorable day out for your class.

All school visits include:

  • Your own Eureka! team member to guide your visit
  • Choose from a selection of Science Shows to inspire
  • Plenty of time to explore our galleries
  • Dedicated lunch space
  • Plenty of teacher resources to help extend the learning beyond your visit.

Eureka! is proud to offer fully accessible venues for all visitors, with limited public visitors on schools days. Eureka! school visits are designed for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), and Key Stages 1 and 2.

Our Play & Learning Team are experts at researching and developing new content for our galleries and programmes, and hunting out world-class specialists to work with on our projects. We ensure that our galleries and programmes are curriculum-linked and that all learning is up-to-date, relevant and reliable.

All this and more means that you can be confident that a class visit to Eureka! is a day well spent.

Curriculum-linked programmes

All school visits include a science show, delivered by trained Enablers and linked to clear learning outcomes.

At Eureka! learning isn’t about memorising disconnected facts. Our hands-on learning through play approach means that pupils remember their trip.

Explore our galleries

All About Me

The largest gallery – All About Me is packed with interactive exhibits that bring the science of the human body to life.

Your pupils can discover how amazing and unique we are, as well as how (and why!) we can keep our bodies healthy.

Living & Working Together

A small world for small people! Living & Working Together provides a wonderful opportunity to role-play and investigate how things work in the adult world.

SoundGarden (Early Years)

SoundGarden is an indoor magical garden bursting with opportunities for play and discovery. Orby the Alien has used her magical powers to make visitors very, very small so that they can experience the sounds of nature in a giant-sized garden – not to mention the sights, smells and textures too!

Spark Gallery

Our Spark gallery is different from the other galleries at Eureka! It’s interactive (just like everything else) but hosts temporary exhibitions that showcase the most exciting and creative digital technology from around the world.

The changing programme of exhibitions will challenge your pupils to think differently about art and how they interact with the digital world. It will encourage your class to be creative in new and unexpected ways.

SoundSpace is a hands-on exploration into the science of sound and music.

In this colourful and immersive experience, children take a trip on a musical spaceship and meet Orby – and inquisitive alien from the Planet Zid.

SoundSpace provides a questioning environment for your children.

Desert Discovery (Early Years)

Desert Discovery is a special habitat inspired by the environment of the Mojave Desert in the USA, with its own quarry, campfire and oasis.

It is sensory experience packed with exhibits designed to support all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Teacher feedback June 2023:

“The staff we interacted with were amazing – kind, thoughtful, engaged, knowledgeable and thoughtful. Thank you very much you really made it a special day even though we were late!”

“Thank you very much for your patience and enthusiasm.”
