Perhaps the kids will help out at the big butterfly count or find some crazy creatures on a mini beast hunt in Wildlife Week. They can make a cool kite or bring their bike along for the day in Explorer Week. Are they the next Olympic sensation? Let’s find out during the Festival of Sport where they can try hockey, rugby, handball, golf, orienteering and Paralympic sport (Remember, it’s not just for the kids, anyone can join in!)
There is the chance to make an edible flower salad or plant a strawberry plant in Gardening Week, join the Wild Ranger’s Club in Bushcraft Week and have a go at making a cress head or building a home for a wild animal in ‘50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ week.
If this doesn’t fill your boots, there is Strawberry Castle Adventure Play area, the Low Ropes Challenge and the Nature Playscape as well as the mini-Gibside fort and lots of puzzles and games at the Stables. Have a go at building your own family den in the West Wood or borrowing the sports equipment from the Sports Box on Green Close Field.
Youngsters can collect their free ’50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ scrapbook from reception and see how many activities they can tick off over the school holidays. Once the kids have run wild, how about a relaxing stroll to the Stables to see the creative workshops at The Branch. There are plenty of places to relax with a well-earned cuppa.
