Packaging is at the forefront of the debate surrounding environmental sustainability today. The media is placing more focus than ever on the harmful effect packaging, especially plastic, is having on the environment. The Museum of Brands’ new Pack The Future display demonstrates how packaging can be made more effective through innovation, with brands continually evaluating their choice of packaging material, making refillable packs, improving recyclability, and concentrating the product itself so less resources are used.

Increasingly, consumers are looking to make more ethical choices, motivating brands to produce more sustainable products and packaging. At the centre of this shift are young people. The learning team are inspired on a daily basis by the sustainability innovations produced by students within interactive workshops. In response, we have developed a worksheet which ties these themes to the 150 year archive of British consumer culture on display in the Museum. Hour-long focused workshops are also available to explore the subject in more detail. Worksheets are free to download and bring along to a visit.
