A mouflon is a type of wild sheep, with impressive horns in adults. The cute new lambs have been on show to the public, winning hearts as they frolic in the sun.

The Butterfly House is also popular. Hundreds of tropical butterfly pupae are delivered to the park each week between spring and autumn from sustainable farms in the Philippines, Thailand, Uganda, Kenya, Argentina, Indonesia, China, North America and Costa Rica.
Visitors can see gorgeous butterflies such as the huge Owl Butterfly, the dainty Glasswing, the colourful Postman and the busy Monarch and watch the various species hatching out.

The giant otter chat can be heard across the park as resident giant otter brothers Simuni and Akuri speak to their mum Panambi and sister Meamu, who are in a different enclosure. Panambi and Meamu were moved down from the Chestnut Centre in Derbyshire and are now on show to the public while Simuni and Akuri are currently off show. But the family members are aware of each other’s presence and have been communicating with loud calls.

Visitors can also see some new arrivals from Derbyshire this year, including red fox Autumn, Scottish wildcats Apple and Cormack, captive-bred barn owl Muckle and Hamish the pine marten. There’s a new deer enclosure beyond the European bison, plus the existing deer encounter enclosure and red deer herd.

As well as otters, owls and deer, the park has a lynx, red foxes, ferrets, harvest mice, polecats, pine martens, mouflon, wolves, wallabies, badgers, souslik, water voles, hedgehogs, Scottish wildcats and wild boar.

There are animal encounters, feeding sessions and informative keeper talks to enjoy throughout the day plus special events in the school holidays.

Children can have a ball in two action-packed adventure playgrounds, and there’s a tempting gift shop and café too.
