The Observatory Science Centre, Herstmonceux

Written by: Elmtree Press

Enjoy an exciting range of interactive science based activities and exhibits amidst the historic domes and telescopes of a former world famous observatory, which is now a thriving science centre. With over 100 interactive science exhibits on offer, as well as Workshops, Science Shows, Telescope Tours, a large outdoor Discovery Park and Team Challenges, you can plan a truly inspirational visit. Our aim is to make science spectacular and fun for everyone. We have over 15 years’ experience in providing schools with tailored and awe-inspiring educational visits and also in inspiring young minds about science and astronomy amidst a unique and historic setting. The Centre has been awarded the “Learning Outside the Classroom: Quality Badge”. We also offer atmospheric Twilight Visits, providing the opportunity to tour the domes in the dark as astronomers would have done and view the night sky at this historic Observatory (weather permitting). In addition to all this, we are also delighted to be one of the 20 science centres in the UK selected to offer the programme of space activities linked to the upcoming mission of the European Space Agency’s first British astronaut, Tim Peake. The programme, called Destination Space, consists of a selection of live Shows, Workshops and activities which you can book with us for your visit. All these fun activities are curriculum-linked and are aimed at engaging and inspiring all about Tim’s mission. We also offer an exciting outreach programme and mobile planetarium, so we can bring our spectacular science to your school.
