For the second year running, The Canterbury Tales visitor attraction has been awarded a VisitEngland Welcome Accolade for its warm welcome and excellent customer service.

The accolade is one of several launched by the national tourist board last autumn as part of the Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme, of which The Canterbury Tales has been a member for 14 years. They are designed to recognise outstanding attractions going the extra mile to create an enjoyable and memorable experience and are allocated through a scoring system based on an annual assessment by VisitEngland.

A spokesman for VisitEngland said of The Canterbury Tales: “This is testament to the high standards achieved, which the assessor felt were truly deserving of recognition.”

The Canterbury Tales’ General Manager, Lyndsay Ridley, added: “Every year, our costumed characters give a warm welcome to thousands of visitors and prepare them for their pilgrimage through the streets of medieval England. We are thrilled that all our hard work has been acknowledged once again by the national tourist board.”

The Canterbury Tales, which underwent a £20,000 refurbishment earlier this year, has introduced several new events for 2015 – including Contagious, which will be offering a mixture of fun and frights every Friday and Saturday night throughout October. The attraction is also introducing a special Christmas event on December 19 and 20, when it will be transformed into a festive wonderland with a medieval twist.

The Canterbury Tales brings to life five of Chaucer’s best-loved stories with tales of love, romance and trickery, vividly recreated with all the fun of his original tales. Its stunningly accurate reconstruction of 14th-century England, set inside the former St Margaret’s Church, gives visitors the opportunity to step back in time and experience the sights, smells and sounds of medieval times. Join Chaucer’s band of pilgrims as they embark on a journey from The Tabard Inn to Canterbury Cathedral.

The Canterbury Tales provides a great introduction to the cathedral city and its famous literary connection as well as being a hugely entertaining day out for the whole family. The Canterbury Tales remains one of Kent’s ‘must see’ attractions.
