A New Year of Learning at Fountains Abbey

Written by: Elmtree Press

As the New Year begins the learning team at Fountains Abbey are gearing up for an exciting year of interactive school workshops.
Whilst the weather is chilly, our art workshops – mosaic making or felt making – are really popular.  The students do some sketching and find out some of the history of the estate, before completing their art works in our fully equipped workshop.
For KS3 and KS2 students keen to uncover the history of the site in a new way, our “Act the Facts” workshop sees the students acting in a promenade performance around the Abbey, using a bespoke script to explore the whole history of the abbey – a site study with a difference.

Our “Day in the Life of a Monk” tour offers children of all ages an insight into the life of a monk – with lots of props, costumes and interaction.

Once the weather starts to brighten then our outdoors and nature workshops will swing into action – schools can build dens, go pond dipping, or try our “Minibeasts to Mammals” workshop in our famous deer park.

We are looking forward to welcoming as many schools as we can fit in – drop us a line and we’ll book you in.
