Thackray Museum of Medicine

Thackray Museum of Medicine

Immerse yourself in our imaginative and exciting galleries, from the history of healthcare to the advances that have shaped the way we look after ourselves and each other.

Thackray Museum of Medicine

Thackray Museum of Medicine explores the rich history of medicine, from the 1600s right through to present day, while also asking what the future holds for healthcare. Through our galleries, programme of events and changing exhibitions, you’ll uncover the story of medicine in new ways as you immerse yourself in spaces like Disease Street, the Victorian Operating Theatre and Apothecary Shop – find out what treatments were really like before the modern advances we often take for granted!

Why not book one of our class workshops and travel back in time to learn about medicine and our building’s past by spending a day in the classroom with Matron or Florence Nightingale?

We are here to help you inspire students through play, creativity, talks, experiences, social events, and formal education: To gain curriculum-based knowledge, to understand more about caring for ourselves and to think about careers in healthcare.
