The Observatory Science Centre
Enjoy an exciting range of interactive science based activities and exhibits amidst the historic domes and telescopes of a former world famous observatory. With over 100 interactive science exhibits on offer, as well as Workshops, Team Challenges, Science Shows, Telescope Tours, and large outdoor Discovery Park, you can plan an inspirational visit.
The Observatory has been awarded the ‘Good to Go’ standard of safety by Visit England. If you cannot visit the Centre our outreach team can bring Spectacular Science to you with the option of our mobile planetarium or portable ScienceWorks exhibits. They will inspire and enthuse with material presented in a fun and entertaining way, tailored to the abilities of the group and geared towards specific learning objectives including key words and concepts.
All of our Observatory team have a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Certificate and many are registered as STEM Ambassadors.
Our inflatable dome runs state-of-the-art professional planetarium software and the array of presentations are truly awe-inspiring, from mythology to space travel.
ScienceWorks are portable table-top interactive exhibits designed to fit in a classroom. The exhibitions have been specially developed for use in primary schools to assist in the teaching of the National Curriculum and are a useful tool in cross-curricular activities.
