The Runway Visitor Park at Manchester Airport is a unique and educational experience for all ages and operates educational tours for school groups from Early Years to KS4 and college.

Runway Visitor Park

The interactive nature of the tours at the Runway Visitor Park is what truly brings them to life. Children taking part have the opportunity to board real aircraft, whilst learning about the different types of jobs that help the airport run smoothly. Not to forget everyone’s favourite part – hopping into the pilot’s seat.

Nursery Tours

Runway Visitor Park tours are suitable for children over the age of 3. Your Tour will last for 1.5 hours.

Approximately 45 minutes of the tour is held in the cabin of the DC10 aircraft. Here the children learn about different parts of an aeroplane e.g., nose, tail, wings engines etc. We talk about some of the jobs at the airport and the children will take part in various role play situations. They visit the flight deck where they can pretend to be a Pilot or a Flight Engineer.

The other 45 minutes of the tour is mainly outside in the Visitor Park. We will look at the movements on the airfield and visit the static aircraft on site. If time allows, a short classroom session will also be included where we can carry out an interactive airport related activity.

This Tour costs £7.50 per child

Reception Class Tours Key stage 1 &2

Your Tour will last for 2 hours.

Approximately 1 hour of the tour is held in the cabin of the DC10 aircraft. Here the children learn about different parts of an aeroplane e.g., nose, tail, wings engines etc. We talk about some of the jobs at the airport and the children will take part in various role play situations. They visit the flight deck where they can pretend to be a Pilot or a Flight Engineer.

The other hour of the tour is mainly outside in the Visitor Park. We will look at the movements on the airfield and visit the static aircraft on site.

This Tour costs £7.50 per child, for every 4 children that you bring, you will get one adult place free, additional adults are charged at £7.50.

Key Stage 4 & College

The duration of this tour is at the Runway Visitor Park and will involve a one hour interactive lecture, followed by a tour around the park giving general information about the aircraft, runways, airport buildings etc.

The tour will last for 2 hours.

The cost of Tour Option 1 is £8.50 per student
