Poole’s Cavern & Buxton Country Park

Over 5000 years ago, cave dwellers sheltered in the chambers. Archaeologists have discovered thousands of remains many of which are on display in the Visitor Centre at Poole’s Cavern & Buxton Country Park.

An attraction since the 16th century and described as one of ‘The Seven Wonders of the Peak’. Visitors to Poole’s Cavern are escorted in comfort and safety by expert guides who unfold the fascinating story of the cavern’s history, myths and legend.

Our tours can be expertly tailored to meet the age and topics being studied by the pupils, from Rocks and minerals to Stone age cave dwellers, Tourism studies and Geology.

Above ground complete your day and explore the woodland trails of Buxton Country Park, 100 acres of beautiful sheltered woodland paths lead to Solomon’s Temple viewpoint with commanding views of the Peak District from the summit of Grin Low at 1400 feet above sea level. Group activities can include one of our orienteering trails or educational bushcraft activities with Outdoor Genius our forest schools providers.

Explore our visitor centre exhibition. Our café offers tasty meals, drinks and snacks.

Our new Rock shop has an amazing collection of rocks, minerals, gemstones, fossils and jewellery from around the world.

There is also children’s play area, picnic area and school rooms available.

Combined with a trip to Go Ape which is situated on the same site this is an excellent educational and fun day out for your group.
