Oxford Castle & Prison
Oxford Castle & Prison
Discover 1,000 years of Oxford’s history! Oxford Castle & Prison is a visitor attraction with a past stretching far beyond your imagination. For hundreds of years the site has held both famous and infamous residents, serving time as a religious site, a home for royalty, a centre of justice and as the County Gaol.
Oxford Castle & Prison
Enrich your tour of the historic Oxford Castle and Prison with a hands–on workshop delivered in the Key Learning Centre by our friendly and knowledgeable learning team.
There are a large selection of cross-curricular workshops available to choose from at Oxford Castle & Prison, using the 1,000 year history of the Castle and its environment to engage your class with a range of topics. We are also happy to tailor these to meet your learning objectives.
Workshops offer a mixture of activities including evidence handling, role play, literacy development and practical problem solving. Suitable for KS1-KS5, sessions can be linked directly to the national curriculum: history, geography, citizenship, literacy, design technology, art and many more. All workshop prices include a guided tour of Oxford Castle & Prison, and time to explore the Castle Mound and wider site.
A free familiarisation visit is available for all group organisers, along with our free Teachers’ Pack, with essential visit information and ideas; devised in collaboration with practising teachers.
