Why Choose Us for an Educational Visit:

We’ve been helping to get young people active, outdoors and in touch with nature for more than 80 years and our team get a real kick from seeing groups leave us with a newfound confidence, team building skills, strong friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

Our highly qualified, professional and experienced teachers and tutors are passionate about delivering action-packed programmes and activities, bringing out the very best of real outdoor adventure.

Once you arrive at one of our outdoor education centres for your residential, everything is included.

  • All activities including transport to and from locations.
  • Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Just bring a packed lunch for the first day.
  • All specialist equipment, helmets and harnesses.
  • Waterproofs and wetsuits. Ideally students should bring their own wellies, but we have plenty on hand to lend.
  • Pillows, sheets, duvets, and blankets
  • Use of the games room, common room, lounges and classroom facilities.
  • For every 12 students booked, one visiting teacher stays free of charge plus one more extra for the whole group.
  • Experienced outdoor teachers and tutors. Each group of 12 students is led by a fully qualified and experienced outdoor tutor.

You can choose either Bewerley Park Outdoor Education Centre in Pateley Bridge surrounded by the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or East Barnby Outdoor Education Centre with the North York Moors National Park as a backdrop and the coast on your doorstep.

Subjects and Topics Covered:

We offer progressive programmes of adventure and outdoor education across key stages, designed to make the best use of our activities in outstanding natural environments with meaningful links to the curriculum. The progression of our programmes leads students on a journey of personal growth, building crucial social skills and environmental awareness from primary school through to the sixth form and beyond.

Our teachers and outdoor tutors have a sound knowledge of the school curriculum from KS2 through to KS4, and beyond to post-16 field studies and are brilliant in using the great outdoors to make subjects come to life.

If you have a specific subject or theme that you would like us to focus on during your visit we can weave that content into the activities in the best way possible.

Education Department Information:

We would love to help you create an unforgettable residential that offers curriculum linked fun and adventure in the real outdoors. To chat with a member of the team, email outdooreducation@northyorks.gov.uk or call 01609 797777.

Pricing Information:

We want all young people to grow up with a love of the outdoors and a passion for adventure. Lots of adults tell us that they still remember their residential, and everything they gained from it. We don’t want anyone to miss out on that, but we know that money is tight for lots of families right now.

That’s why we’ve dropped all our prices, with a three-day residential in 2025/26 starting from just £139 per person or £259 per person for four nights!

We also have a number of exciting new offers, including:

  • Book for 60 young people or more and get a discounted rate with up to £111 off per person for bookings from 1 April 2025. This is a great option for smaller schools to come together as a larger group.
  • Some schools prefer to join us on a weekend, so we’re also offering great value rates for a Friday to Sunday programme, with prices starting from £158 per person.

Facilities:

Groups have access to facilities including games room, common room, lounges and classroom facilities.  Both outdoor education centres also have some safe large green open spaces to use during non-activity times.

We’re also lucky to be able to make use of some incredible natural assets and also take groups to locations including Brimham Rocks, Dalby forest and Runswick Bay to name but a few!

Accessibility and Disabled Facilities:

We believe that all young people have the right to learn and to have fun whilst doing so, in a safe but challenging environment. Our full-time teachers and outdoor tutors have many years experience working with people of all ages and abilities. They’re quick to assess a group’s  level of skill and any additional needs, which means they know exactly how to deliver an outstanding learning experience to each member of the group, no matter how diverse.

We can offer wheelchair accessible accommodation and have ramps available where needed as well as lots of areas that could be set up as a sensory space. We’ll work with you to ensure accessibility requirements are in place well before you join us at one of our centres, so please get in touch to chat with us about what you need.
