Field Studies Council – London
There is no substitute for first-hand experiences in nature. FSC school trips bring classroom learning to life to develop skills such as resilience and independence; and building relationships with peers.
FSC London offers a range of courses across the Capital City, using inspiring and exciting natural and built sites across London. Through working at a wide range of sites, we offer courses that suit your needs. All our teaching sites are fully accessible and are located near tube or train stations.
FSC work in partnership with the London Borough of Lewisham to deliver education services in Beckenham Place Park and the Royal Parks to deliver education in Bushy Park, Greenwich Park and The Regent’s Park. Bushy Park has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and the Centre enjoys two classrooms with access to the Nature Trail, part of Bushy Park, not normally accessible to the public.
Also in London, FSC Epping Forest, is situated in the heart of Epping Forest, an area of around 2,400 hectares of wood-pasture, stretching from Manor Park in East London to just north of Epping in Essex. Two thirds of the Forest have been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation. The purpose built, fully accessible Centre has six classrooms, and associated facilities, with direct access into our teaching sites which include woodland, grassland, heath and river. The Centre is just a few minutes from the M25 and Loughton Tube Station.
Set in South Buckinghamshire, within the Chiltern Hills AONB, FSC Amersham is located within 30 hectares of mixed woodland, meadows and ponds which surround and conceal Amersham Substation. The centre has two classrooms plus a yurt for the summer months. Most activities, apart from river and settlement studies, take place within an easy walk of the field centre building. The Centre is uniquely accessible, being eight miles from Junctions 16 and 18 of the M25 and six only miles from Junctions 2 and 4 of the M40.
A short drive from London, next to Box Hill in Surrey, FSC Juniper Hall has beautiful scenery and countryside surroundings yet is very easy to reach by car or public transport. The Centre is popular for residential trips to support geography and biology fieldwork lessons and can accommodate a maximum of 130 guests.
FSC Flatford Mill is the first and original Centre set up in the UK during the 1940’s. Set amidst the quintessentially English countryside of the Dedham Vale in Suffolk, it sits on the banks of the River Stour. Flatford Mill runs residential school trips and provides a very wide range of natural history and art courses too.
