Dingles Fairground Museum

Dingles Fairground Museum

Run away to the fair for a day in the heart of the Devon countryside and discover the unique world of the travelling showmen through our national collection of vintage fairground rides, stalls, penny arcade, living wagons and artwork displays, where students can laugh while they learn.

Located just off the A30 between Okehampton and Launceston is Dingles Fairground Museum, home to a nationally important collection of fairground rides, exhibits and artworks.

We aim to tell the story of the travelling fair from Victorian to more modern times through our displays, written interpretation, storytelling and vintage rides. A large under-cover, easy access venue, we are able to accommodate large groups for exclusive use of the Museum, where we typically run a 3 hour session of learning and laughter.

Students are divided into groups to explore the art, history, music and lifestyle of the travelling fairs and then given guided talks around the vintage rides, discovering how they work with opportunities to view underneath a dodgem car and inside the Moonrocket ride to better understand their mechanics.

We can provide quizzes or an educational fact-finding trail but are equally keen to work with schools to facilitate subject specific visits, such as maths workshops or art and photography projects. Each session ends with an hour of free time to experience all the rides, side shows and the penny arcade. It’s a school trip they will never forget!
