You can expect your day to be a highly interactive hands-on, multi-sensory experience, focusing on the Coventry Transport Museums collection of British vehicles on the planet and tells the story of a city which changed the world through transport.

Your pupils will enjoy a creative learning environment in which they can develop transferable skills such as critical thinking, communication and problem-solving.

Subjects and Topics Covered:

We offer a range of workshops to suit different key stages, varying in style to suit different ages, abilities and topics. All workshops ca be adapted to suit the needs of SEN pupils.

During you visit to Coventry Transport Museum, you can choose from any of the following facilitated workshops:
– Boneshaker storytelling (EYFS, KS1)
– Victorian Cycles (KS1 & KS2)
– Blackout, Rationing and Evacuee Experience (KS2)

-Programming with Art Bots (KS2)
– Need for Speed (KS2 & 3)
– Manufacturing (KS3 &4)

We also have a range of teacher-led activities, where your group will be given a brief introduction by the museum team, at which point you will be given a host of activities to use as you journey around the museum with your pupils:
– WheelIe Wicked (KS1)
– Transport Timeline (KS2)
– Design and Technology Quiz (KS3)
– Key Stage 3 Quiz

Group Sizes Catered For:

Each session has a maximum capacity of 32 pupils per group. We can host two classes per day (up to 64 children) for facilitated workshops. For teacher-led or self-led visits, we can host up to 120 students onsite per day.

Itineraries, Resources, and Workshops:

Itineraries are developed depending on a school’s booking requests. Typically a visit to the Herbert would be planned out at follows:

10am – Arrival

10.15am – 11.45am – first workshop

11.45am – 12.30pm – Lunch

12.30pm – 2.00pm – second workshop/self-led exploration

2.00pm – 2.15pm – collect belongings and depart

Workshops include a variety of topics covering history, art, science and literature.

Risk Assessment:

Risk assessments are available for all visits and can be found on our website. Risk assessments will also be sent out to the lead teacher at the time of booking and can be requested. Pre-visits are welcome. The education team all carry enhanced DBS clearance and take part in annual safeguarding training.

Pricing Information:

Self-led visits – £75 for Coventry schools.

Facilitated workshops – £120 per session, up to 32 pupils per session.

Teacher-led sessions (resources and introduction to the museum included) – £75 per class, up to 32 pupils

Two-session discount – £200 for two workshops when booked for the same pupils to extend your visit to a full day experience.

Travel bursaries are available, claiming up to £250 back towards your transport costs for schools who book two sessions and have a minimum of 20% pupil premium.

Facilities:

Yes, Facilitated workshops take place in our classroom spaces, with a blend of visiting gallery spaces depending on the workshops. A lunch room is also available, which is free to use as part of a booked facilitated workshop, or a cost of £60 when part of a self-led visit.

Accessibility and Disabled Facilities:

We have an adaptable approach to our delivery, and staff have received thorough awareness training on meeting the needs of those with SEN. Please note, it is always best to make contact with your bookings team to discuss your visit so we can offer you the best experience.
