Visit Twycross Zoo for an experience your students will never forget. Located on the Leicestershire/Warwickshire border, Twycross Zoo is an internationally recognised conservation charity. Spanning over 100-acres we exist to support conservation, education, and research of some of the most endangered species on the planet. We are the only UK zoo home to all four great ape species as well as The Gruffalo Discovery Land.

Discover hundreds of different animals in immersive habitats, from chimpanzees to giant giraffes, from tigers and rhinos to meerkats and more! Not forgetting beautiful tropical birds and insects too. Listen and learn about all the animals from our Expert Rangers, the perfect opportunity to ask animal questions at the daily talks around the zoo.

From EYFS to Higher Education, our educational visits encourage learners to follow their curiosity and build confidence in their imagination, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills through curriculum-linked sessions, workshops and expeditions.

Our sessions are learner-focussed, inclusive and adaptive to the foundational understanding and ability of the learners. Sessions are delivered using a flexible framework, with our knowledgeable Conservation Education Officers using their expertise and discretion to adapt sessions delivery to best suit the needs of learners.

This includes numerous practical activities to encourage application and contextualisation of knowledge, including role play, puzzle solving and class-wide games. Many of our sessions also use tactile artefacts and props, both artificial and real. Real artefacts (such as skulls and skins) are donated to use by Customs Agencies and/or museums for educational purposes, and are safe to handle. No live animals are used in any workshop.

A selection of our Workshops are available as Expeditions, which cover the same content as the classroom Workshop, but are delivered while walking around the zoo and visiting relevant animal enclosures.
