School at Mad Museum 2021 – Mechanical Art and Design
The MAD (Mechanical Art and Design) Museum opened in 2012 and has since welcomed over 250,000 visitors from around the world. It is the only permanent museum of its kind in the UK showcasing over 70 pieces of kinetic art and automata which have been sourced from creators across the globe.
Teaching children outside of the classroom can have major benefits for pupils. Studies show that educational trips and learning opportunities can improve wellbeing, attainment and peer relationships. The MAD Museum offers a unique opportunity for students of all ages to actively learn away from the classroom. Reception, primary, secondary and higher education students can learn about mechanical art and design as well as further STEM based education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
The multi-sensory, hands on Museum encourages pupils to marvel, examine and be inspired by the inventions on display and offers school groups approximately 1.5 hours of inspirational creativity, witty design and engineering ingenuity.
Voted the ‘Best Museum in Warwickshire’, ‘2nd Best Thing to do in Stratford upon Avon’ and ‘3rd Best Thing to do in Warwickshire’ on Trip Advisor, pupils are encouraged to press buttons, decipher mind-boggling design and become inspired.
The Museum can provide packs for (KS1, KS2 & KS3) teachers including lesson plans, explanations, facts and tips which all support the National Curriculum. Also available are educational activity packs for pupils which encourage them to design, describe and think outside the box. Teachers are also entitled to two free tickets to visit the Museum prior to their school visit.
