Castell Henllys Iron Age Village

The Castell Henllys Visitor Centre contains an interactive exhibition, a gift shop and a cafe serving home-made cakes and light lunches.

There are picnic benches and a play area down by the river and a ‘barefoot trail’ – a chance to feel different surfaces and textures, from logs, to gravel, to squelching clay with your bare feet! (Bring a towel!)

At Castell Henllys Iron Age Village, school trips can enjoy a walk through the woods and up the hill to the fort, pass through the gateway and into the village. The houses are reconstructed on the foundations of houses built 2300 years ago. Take a chance to talk to the guides, smell the wood smoke, bake bread or have your face painted like the warriors.

Accessibility: we have a ‘tramper’ – a motorised scooter for loan or we can offer a lift in our site vehicle, for anyone who finds it difficult to walk up and down hills, we can also transport your wheelchairs and to and from the fort as required.
