Design a gargoyle competition |

York Minster Stone Carving Festival August 14th-15th
Up to 80 masons, carvers, sculptors, and stonework apprentices from across the UK and Europe will gather at York Minster to celebrate the craft of stone carving.
As part of the 2010 Festival at York Minster we are holding a competition open to all children up to 11 years old. We would like you to draw or paint your own gargoyle. The winning entry will be carved by one of the Minster’s stone carvers at the stone festival. At the end of the festival all of the carvings will be sold at auction to raise money for the Minster Development fund (reg’ charity number 252157) and York against Cancer.
The theme for the festival is 'Nature's form and the fabulous'. Pictures and designs to be on A4 size paper please.
Hints and Tips
Don’t get too complicated. Your carver has only a weekend to turn your design into a gargoyle.
Why not visit your local church for ideas and inspiration?
The theme is 'nature's form and the fabulous'. Let your imagination run wild and make up a fabulous beast.
Try to think about what your gargoyle will look like from the front, the side, and the back.
