Professional Historical Re-Enactors “Rosa Mundi” will set up their medieval camp in the grounds of the Abbey and will be running lots of interactive activities including: Cooking to authentic recipes, Archery and arrow making, spinning and weaving, medieval games, music and dancing, and lots more.
In addition schools are invited to book “A Monk’s Life” – a costumed walk through the Abbey, finding out what it was like to be a monk at Fountains – these sessions will run on the hour from 10am to 3pm and will take 45 minutes.
Secondary school history students studying the medieval world will find lots to help them understand Medieval Society and the Church as they step back in time in Rosa Mundi’s medieval camp in the shadow of the great Cistercian Abbey.
The day is also suitable for Primary schools as part of a local history study, or simply as an engaging and enriching encounter with their locality in the past. They will have the chance to learn medieval dances and try weaving, fletching and many other activities.
Entrance to the estate and all the activities on the day are free to Education Group Members of the National Trust (there is more information on this membership here: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/educational-group-membership
