Learn with Dogs Trust! Join Sarah Saunders (Education and Community Officer) and her dog Lyra for an interactive session designed specifically for young visitors. Statistics show the vast majority of dog bites to children are by dogs that the children actually know. It is so important to educate children on how to behave around dogs to keep them safe and for children to understand what a dog might be trying to communicate. These important messages have been developed into a fun child centred workshop that also deals with what a dog needs to be happy and healthy and compares this to the pupils’ own wellbeing.

Visit leaders must make necessary arrangements for any young visitors with dog fur allergies or extreme fear of dogs. Lyra’s temperament around children is exemplary and has been known to help children with some reservations about dogs overcome some of their fears, but visit leaders are best placed to know their young visitors and how they may react.
