Do you want your pupils to really achieve their potential? If so, arrange a visit to the Yorkshire Air Museum, where they can really Reach for the Sky on a school trip to York!
Did you know that the aeroplane is a Yorkshire invention? Discover this and other amazing facts about the history of flight with our Aviation Trail.
Learn about the role of aviation during both WW1 and WWII in our amazing Bomber Command & Pioneers of Aviation exhibitions and other fascinating displays. The Museum is based on an authentic Royal Air Force Bomber Command Station, where you can really feel the atmosphere of the era.
From the earliest man-carrying aircraft with Sir George Cayley’s 1853 Glider through to developments in the World Wars and into the supersonic age, the Yorkshire Air Museum has it all!

Some of the children, quizzed by the head teacher upon returning to school, said it had been the, "the best trip ever!" Despite the cold the hangars and aircraft, and in particular the accessible cockpit sections, were obviously the stars of the show. Children I was supervising also enjoyed the control tower and the exhibitions (I took them to the air gunners' room, Pioneers of Flight and the Bomber Command exhibit).
We found that there was more than enough to see and do during the day - several of my colleagues commented particularly on that. In fact, some of the adults in the party confessed that, prior to coming, they had not been keenly interested (I know, I could hardly believe it either!). The day changed their minds completely and all said they'd enjoyed it, hadn't realised what was so close at hand, had not seen everything they wanted to and would probably come again (in warmer weather).
At least one pupil told me that he had arranged to come back for another visit with his parents during half-term.
I will be sure to let the classes who came, and the school in general, know about any upcoming events you are putting on.
Thanks again for your help in organising such a successful trip.
