Take a journey of discovery from tropical lagoons to the icy polar seas at Hull's award-winning aquarium. The Deep is dedicated to the enjoyment and understanding of the world's oceans and welcomes over 30,000 pupils each year. With over 3,000 fish including spectacular sharks and rays, a visit to The Deep creates a wow! factor for all key stages.
The Deep’s in-house teachers have launched a range of exciting new workshops for 2011/12, which are designed to teach pupils about the oceans, animals and the environment we live in.
All sessions are closely referenced to the National Curriculum.
Workshops are available from Foundation level right up to Post 16 and are all closely referenced to the National Curriculum. The Deep’s qualified teachers have created the new workshops, which are sure to be a big hit with pupils of all ages.
New sessions for Key Stage 2 include ‘Getting the Message Across’ which teaches pupils about how the divers at The Deep keep in touch through special hand signals and ‘Planet Explorer; using the Magic Globe’ which takes you on an interactive journey through the solar system.
Additions to the Key Stage 3 programme include ‘Great White Mystery’ which looks at whether we have great white sharks in our water, ‘Underwater Art’ allowing pupils to show their creative side and ‘Volcanoes and Igneous Rocks’ where you get the chance to look at how volcanic activity affects both land and water.
There are also new workshops for Key Stage 4 including ‘Fantastic Displays’ where pupils get the chance to be an aquarist for the day and create their own amazing tanks on a fixed budget.
I would like to thank all the staff at The Deep for making our visit to Hull a success. Your staff are incredibly professional and dealt with our group of German and English students extremely well. All our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
