As well as covering science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), Snibson also provides hands-on exploration and workshops to support design, history and PSHE.
Snibston has achieved the Learning Outside the Classroom quality badge and is a leading regional learning institution working closely with Loughborough, Leicester and Nottingham Trent universities.
Housing five major galleries, iconic colliery buildings, a working railway, an outdoor science play area and a country park, Snibston celebrates 500 years of technological innovation and its impact on our daily lives.

Our range of workshops have been specially designed around the National Curriculum. Each one is delivered by a specialist Museum Educator and encourages interactive learning using the museum collections and galleries.

Extraordinary Gallery
Let your students experiment and explore the technologies that have shaped everyday life. Discover how many people it takes to lift a mini, make a fire, or single-handedly move a rock.
Engineering and Extractive Industries Galleries
From Tudor coal-mining tools and steam-powered beam engines, to the prototype of Britain’s first jet engine, this gallery celebrates the Midlands’ rich industrial past.
Light Fantastic and Science show
Students can experiment with sustainable energy and discover the effects of a black hole. Younger pupils can explore the wonders of Snibston close up with our interactive floor.
Transport Gallery
From pack horses, trains and locally made Auster aircraft, explore travel and transport through the ages.
Fashion Gallery
The largest fashion gallery outside London, it houses designs from some of the most-celebrated fashion designers of our time, and shows how technology has moulded fashion through the ages.
Toy Box Gallery
This gallery celebrates toys throughout the ages and the impact of technology on toy development.
Colliery Tour
Students can join one of our former minors on a fascinating tour of the colliery buildings to hear what it was like to work underground, see how the control centre operated and understand what equipment was used. These first-hand stories are amazing.
