Newby Hall is one of Britain’s finest Adam houses, with Chippendale furniture, exquisite paintings and statues. The award winning gardens include an enchanting woodland walk, regular art and sculpture exhibitions, a miniature railway and exciting adventure gardens. It is an ideal setting for studies of art, design, history and social studies.
Newby presents endless opportunities for an inspirational educational visit.
The ancient sculptures in the Statue Gallery and the modern sculptures on the Contemporary Sculpture Trail (from 1st June) give wonderful scope for discovering the arts. The woodland walk and gardens provide a wealth of material, while the house itself is a very special environment in which to explore form, colour, design and mathematical proportion as well as architecture and social history.
School groups are invited to take part - free of charge - in sculpting workshops provided by the resident Zimbabwean sculptors.
Newby’s wonderful adventure playground is a fantastic place to let off steam with an amazing variety of experiences including the miniature railway.
Eating – there is a large picnic area close to the coach park for lunch and if it is wet, we will ensure undercover space is available.
Disabled Visitors – good facilities and accessibility. Both motorised & manual wheelchairs available on FREE loan. You are advised to book them in advance.
Groups of 15 or more can benefit from discounted entry plus free entry for group leaders, couriers and coach drivers.
For teachers who would like to make a pre-visit to see what Newby has to offer children, we will be happy to arrange a complimentary family ticket. Risk assessments will be available to download in time for the 2012 season.
