Derbyshire Wildlife Trust

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust offers environmental education at Carsington Water’s Wildlife Discovery Room and at the Whistlestop Centre in Matlock Bath. Both centres offer various opportunities to discover wildlife, from river investigation to meadow surveys and much more.

The superb landscape at Carsington provides an ideal setting for learning about the natural world, and we have recently extended our programme to include new topics including migration, hibernation and exploring water as a natural resource. The outdoor learning environment is supported by a fully-equipped indoor classroom.

The Whistlestop Centre is in former railway station buildings in the heart of Matlock Bath. The Centre has an inspiring wildlife garden with pond and uses the nearby river and woods for earthwalks, river dipping and other activities. The Centre offers a free lunchbox challenge activity as part of the day to help children think about waste and recycling.
