Children of all ages love visiting The Nightingale Centre. The centre is surrounded by peaceful countryside yet lies central to the conurbations of Yorkshire, the Midlands and the North West & near to interesting places like Chatsworth, Buxton, Bakewell and, even closer, the plague village Eyam, an Iron Age fort, local evidence of lead mining and Castleton with its caves and castle. Sheffield’s city activities are just 40 mins away; Even Alton Towers is reachable in just over an hour. At Great Hucklow itself there are llama rides and we can advise on the many other indoor and outdoor activities for young people close by.
Situated in extensive grounds with ample parking space, the centre provides play equipment and a five-a-side football pitch. There are walks from the door, plentiful hot showers after a day out, packed lunches if needed and an effective drying room.
Indoors there are two well-equipped activity/learning rooms (one max 80 dividable, one max 40), a comfortable lounge and "break-out" areas if needed. Groups of 35+ may arrange exclusive use of the main house.
Our increasingly eco-friendly accommodation for up to 68 is in well-appointed single, twin or family rooms (some en-suite) and dormitory accommodation with leaders rooms adjacent. The centre is centrally heated throughout - we’re open all year. We offer discounts in the winter months November to February but we think you will find our rates competitive at all times of the year.
The recently refurbished dining room serves excellent food and our chef is always willing to prepare special menus to suit different groups and we can cater for most individual needs.
The centre is a registered charity and we seek to enable people with disabilities to get the best possible experience at the centre. We encourage prospective visitors to discuss their requirements in advance so we can provide an honest assessment of what we can offer and respond helpfully.
We have been welcoming groups of young people of all ages to our centre for generations and understand their needs. If you would like to discuss how we can assist your group please contact us – we’d love to help!
